Benson and his sibling, Tyson, began their lives in the care of a young gentleman who affectionately named them. As Benson grew, he developed an insatiable curiosity, venturing out into the neighborhood and charming everyone he met. One special lady named Mandy and her daughter couldn’t resist his charms and welcomed him into their home. They showered him with love and had him neutered, but it wasn’t an easy journey for Benson.

Initially, Benson displayed signs of mistrust and wariness towards humans. This behavior is all too common in unneutered cats who roam the streets, facing cruelty from people they encounter. However, with Mandy’s care and patience, Benson transformed into a loving and content feline companion, earning himself the name “Brian.”

Tragically, Mandy’s personal circumstances changed in September 2021, forcing her to leave Brian with a friend and colleague. Brian, with his free spirit, yearned for Mandy’s presence and, on the second night, escaped. His caretaker searched desperately, issuing lost reports on social media, around the neighborhood, and contacting the Kloof & Highway SPCA. Mandy herself tirelessly scoured the area for months, hoping to reunite with her beloved Brian. Tragically, Brian was brought to the Kloof & Highway SPCA as an unwanted stray.

Brian’s long absence had rendered any initial lost reports obsolete. Fortunately, a Good Samaritan who had saved a Facebook post on her phone decided to revisit archived lost reports. To her astonishment, she discovered a lost report matching the cat she had found, down to the distinctive markings on its legs.

Mandy rushed to the SPCA and was reunited with Brian, now known as “Boi” by the shelter staff. However, her living situation prevented her from taking him home. Determined to find Boi a loving home, Mandy spread the word far and wide. Eventually, a friend of Boi’s original owner, Etienne, learned of Boi’s plight and decided to meet him, considering the possibility of adoption.

Etienne adopted Boi and gave him a new name, Benson. Recalling their first meeting, Etienne said, “Boi stole my heart the moment I looked into those sparkly eyes saying, ‘please take me home!'” To everyone’s delight, Benson seamlessly integrated into his new home, getting along famously with Etienne’s Yorkie. He spends his days lounging on the bed, playing with toys, and relishing cuddles and purrs in the evenings. His soft and friendly nature has won the hearts of all who have met him.

Mandy is overflowing with gratitude toward Etienne for adopting her beloved Benson.
